Obituary

Ava Dell Hawkins Brown, age 84, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021 at her residence in Rowlett, Texas. Ava was born March 23, 1936 to Herman and Estelle Barnhill Hawkins.

Ava never really retired; she loved her work.  She was a business owner: Brown's Hitch Rail, Germania Insurance (40+ years), and Area Wide Real Estate. Ava loved gardening, playing the stock market, and giving advice.  She was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in New Boston and former member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church and Rocky Branch Missionary Baptist Church.

Ava was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Dee Brown; one grandson, Riley Wade Brown; and one great-granddaughter, Leddy Dell Davis; two brothers, Jackie Hawkins and Marlon Hawkins; and one sister Betty Hawkins Hurst.

Survivors include one daughter, Vickie Brown Penney of Garland, Texas and longtime companion Dan Bunch of Mesquite, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan Brown and wife Paula of Sulphur Springs, Texas and Pete Brown and wife Terri of Naples; five grandchildren, Jason Penney and wife Angie of Grapevine, Texas, Matt Brown and wife Shannon of Sherman, Texas, Zane Brown and wife Brittany of Lindale, Texas, Alissa Davis and husband Jake of Wolfe City, Texas, Kaylee Holloway and husband Cody of Cason, Texas; eight great-grandchildren, Reid, Rhyan, and Rhett Brown, Zoey Brown, Cade and Cullen Davis, Hatley and Adaley Holloway; twin sister, Mary Hensley of New Boston, Texas; sister, Carol Gauntt of Maud, Texas; one brother, Buford Hawkins of Texarkana, Texas; special business associate, Denise Doughten of Naples, Texas; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2021 at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dominic Crescimanno and Rev. James Strain officiating.  Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Bryans Mill, Texas.
