On February 18, 1941, Barbara Ann was born to Martha Lois and James Rade Nix in Marshall, Texas. Her Lord called her home at the age of 85 on May 20, 2026, as she passed peacefully with her family by her side.

Barbara loved school and learning. She joined the orchestra in grade school. She had fond memories of performing at the Cotton Bowl as a member of the Marshall High School Maverick Orchestra. She later met her soulmate at Memorial Baptist Church, when a group of ETBU college boys came to sing one Sunday morning. They were married in August of 1959 and began their life together of 64 years before Vernon was called home.

Barbara was a very quiet God-Fearing woman who thrived on making her home for her husband and daughter on a daily basis. She devoted her entire life to God, her husband, daughter, family, and friends. She enjoyed teaching children's Sunday School, as well as VBS. For many years she and Vernon enjoyed working together in their greenhouse business. They then enjoyed traveling together to many states in their leisure. They began to slow down their travels as they joyously became grandparents of Laneigh and Harley, of whom they were immensely proud of. In their later years, Mamaw and Papaw were blessed with three great-grandsons. Mamaw was extremely proud of Case playing Amazing Grace on his viola for his Papaw's service, and most recently seeing Trent's many accomplishments and enjoyment in his FFA program this year. Mamaw continuously marveled at her youngest Jake, with his vast knowledge and enjoyment of trains and all things mechanical.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Rade Nix; her beloved baby sister, Sandy and husband Harry Curry; and most recently her one true love Vernon Weaver of 64 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie and husband Craig Schluter; her granddaughter, Laneigh and husband Keith Freeman; her grandson, Harley and wife Devon Schluter; her great-grandsons, Case, Trent, and Jake Freeman; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law, as well as many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and greats from both Her's and Vernon's families.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Pine Forrest Baptist Church in Hallsville, Texas with Bro. Donavan Jarvis and Rev. Ottis Jarrell officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Park Cemetery in Longview, Texas. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the church prior to the service.

Our family wishes to express how blessed we have been by the loving care of Elara Caring has given Momma and her beloved Vernon while they were on hospice together.
