Benton Edward "Ben" Best, Sr., age 87, of Naples, Texas, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016, at his home. Ben was born July 31, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri to Fred and Myrtle Best.
Ben was a brick mason, and worked as a firefighter at Lone Star Steel. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Naples. Ben was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Texas Forestry Association. He enjoyed singing in the choir at church and spent many hours painting pictures. Ben loved eating Blue Bell Ice Cream and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving family members include his wife of 66 ½ years, Carolyn Best of Naples; one son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Mary Beth Best of Marietta, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law; Kim and James Norman of Rowlett, Texas and Kristi and Michael Truelove of Lavon, Texas; seven grandchildren, Cliff Witt and wife Kristin, Clay Witt and wife Maggie, Lana Hamblin and husband Brian, Kristen Brockway and husband Kip, Marci Martinez and husband Jonah, Cynthia Duncan and husband Chris, and Taylor Best; twelve great-grandchildren; his favorite companion, Prince; and may other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2016, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Naples with Rev. Richard Tatum officiating. Interment will follow at Vissering Cemetery in Naples.
