Obituary

Bernice Louella Cobb Higgins, age 94, of Naples, Texas, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Bernice was born August 25, 1923 in Naples to Odis Oscar Cobb and Versey Alice Jacobs Cobb.

Bernice was a loving Christian wife and mother. She was a member at Daniels Chapel Congregational Methodist Church for over 70 years, having served as church treasurer, clerk, and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Union, the Morris County Retired Teachers Association, the Ladies Auxiliary for the Naples Volunteer Fire Department, and the Naples Watermelon Festival Committee. She was also a member of the Naples Chamber of Commerce where she was awarded the Naples Citizen of the Year award. She played Mrs. Claus for several years during annual Christmas parades. Bernice retired from Paul Pewitt School where she was cafeteria manager for many years. She was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, flower-gardening and she loved family gatherings.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Higgins, in 1999; her parents; three brothers, Ronald Joe Cobb, Marshall "Tiny Bub" Cobb, and Odis Cobb, Jr.; three sisters, Thelma Reeves, Marie Doggett, and Charlene Jaynes; a son-in-law, Kelly Carpenter; one grandson, Robert Holman, Jr.; and twin great-granddaughters, Lauren and Lindsey Knight.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Noel and June Higgins of Naples, Kenneth and Louise Higgins of Naples, and Sam and Mary Higgins of Naples; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol Carpenter of Omaha, Glenna and Robert Holman of Lavon, Texas, and Brenda and Ricky Knight of Naples; one sister, Mary Carpenter of Naples; thirteen grandchildren, Floyd Irwin Carpenter, Kelly Lance Carpenter, Thomas Higgins, Heather Smith, Charles Higgins, Colinda Holbrook, Patricia Warren, Tammy Clubb, Cindy Finney, Clay Higgins, Aaron Holman, Russell Knight, and Mark Knight; twenty-four great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Daniels Chapel Congregational Methodist Church in Naples with Rev. Nolan Richey officiating. Interment will follow at Springhill Cemetery in Naples. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2018 at the funeral home.
