Betty Lou Carney, age 100, of Naples, Texas, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024 in Mt. Vernon, Texas. Betty was born November 18, 1923, in Cornett, Texas, to Alvin James Irvin and Gladys Ovelle Tuck Irvin.

Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Naples where she sang in the choir and was very active in her Sunday School Class.  Upon retirement as a medical insurance clerk, Betty became very active in her community.  She was integral in organizing the Candy Stripers at Wadley Hospital in Texarkana, and was involved with various other civic organizations.  Betty loved to shop, especially for shoes and purses.  She also enjoyed cooking, dancing, playing dominoes and forty-two, playing cards, and bowling.  Betty especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Carney, Jr.; her parents; two sons, Roland Carney III and Gerald Carney; two brothers, James Irvin and Gerald "Slick" Irvin; one sister, Eva Dell Irvin; and one grandson, Michael Carney.

Survivors include two sons and four daughters-in-law, Don Carney of Rockwall, Texas and David and Rhonda Carney of Naples, Karen Carney of Fort Worth, Texas, Brenda Carney of Windsor, Colorado, and Nanci Carney of Lewisville, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Rick Brunson of Royse City, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Suzie Irvin of Cornett; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2024 at First United Methodist Church in Naples with Rev. Don Lewis and Ken Alexander officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church, prior to the funeral.  Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Texarkana, Arkansas.
