Obituary

Bettye Ruth Stewart, age 89, of Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022 in Grand Prairie, Texas. Betty was born May 30, 1933, in Naples, Texas, to Horace L. "Buck" Hicks and Thelma Helen Hampton Hicks.

Bettye was a Baptist. She was a human resource officer for a majority of her working career.  She was an exemplary employee who was recognized with many awards throughout her career including the National Equal Employment Opportunity Counselor of the Year award. She accomplished all of this as a single mom with four children, one of whom was disabled and required hospitalization on a regular basis.  When she was not striving for excellence in work, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading the daily newspaper, watching singing, modeling, dancing and talent competitions, being a pageant mom, and talking on the phone with family and friends.  She had a special love for animals, especially her beloved dogs, Macie and Pink, and cat, Murphy.

Bettye was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Chet Harvey of Irving, Texas; and one brother-in-law, Bennie Joe Boyd of Mount Pleasant, Texas.

Survivors include one son, Bobby Stewart of Naples; three daughters and one son-in-law, Kim Stewart of Grand Prairie, Texas, Karen and Danny Burnap of Wylie, Texas and Lisa White of Grand Prairie; one sister, Thelma Boyd of Mount Pleasant; six grandchildren, Jennifer Reynolds and husband Aron, Jerrod Burnap and wife Brooks, Audra Bucheger and husband Cody, Jasmine White, Joshua White, and Jamil Webb and wife Sherrelle; five great grandchildren, Ovetta and Major Reynolds, Tyler and Emilia Bucheger, and Prescott Webb; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Naples Cemetery in Naples with Bro. Nolan Richey officiating.
