Edward William "Bill" Rice, age 87, of Naples, Texas, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024 in Tyler, Texas. Bill was born September 22, 1936, in Foreman, Arkansas, to Samuel Lafayette Rice and Melissa Jane Cannon.
Bill went to Foreman High School and Henderson University in Arkansas. He was a master plumber and a journeyman electrician. He worked in maintenance and construction, including Nakoosa and International Paper, until he retired in 1999. Since then, Bill has worked with his son, Mike, at Daingerfield Iron and Metal. When he wasn't working, Bill enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and boating. He also enjoyed reading, photography, and flower gardening. Bill was very family oriented and cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joe Rice; and two sisters, Mary Jane Pruitt and Ann Rice.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Tucker Rice of Naples; one daughter, Martha Rice of Naples; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Jessica Rice of Naples; one brother, Sam Rice of Ashdown, Arkansas; one sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Don Turner of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Whitney Rice and husband Justiss Hall, and Courtney Blackburn and husband Rustin; three great-grandchildren, Julien Hall, Jenson Hall, and Courtlynn Blackburn; and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 26, 2024 at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 26, 2024 at Harrison Funeral Home with John Johnson officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 26, 2024 at Holy Cross Cemetery in Foreman, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Holy Cross Cemetery Association.
