Obituary

Billy Ray Rosewell, Sr., age 85, of Cookville, Texas, passed away Monday, February 18, 2019, at his home. Billy was born November 25, 1933 in Cookville to Leon Rosewell and Winnie Claire Causey Rosewell.

Billy was a United States Army veteran.  After serving in the Army, Billy went to work as a cowboy.  He became a renowned cutting horse trainer.  He was the NCHA World Champion in 1993, and was later inducted into the NCHA Hall of Fame.  He was also a member of the American Quarter Horse Association.  Billy's horses were his life.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roy Mack Rosewell and Bobby Rosewell; and one sister, Dorothy McPeters.

Survivors include three sons and one daughter-in-law, Billy Rosewell, Jr. of Cookville, David and Maria Rosewell of Kilgore, Texas, and Tommy Joe Rosewell of Mt. Pleasant; one daughter, Tammy Rosewell of Reno, Nevada; one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Katy Rosewell of Cookville; one sister Betty Ann Phillips of Mt. Pleasant; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2019 at Harrison Funeral Chapel in Naples, Texas.  Interment will follow at Omaha Cemetery in Omaha, Texas.
