Charlie Winston Hampton, age 96, of Naples, Texas, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2015, in a Mt. Pleasant, Texas nursing home. Charlie was born October 23, 1918, in the Cornett community (Cass County), to Charlie Betts Hampton and Minnie Cox Hampton.

Charlie graduated from Naples High School. He started to East Texas State Teachers College before being drafted into the Army during World War II. During his service, he earned numerous commendations and medals, including a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Upon returning home from the service, Charlie received his Bachelor of Science degree from East Texas State Teachers College and a Masters of Arts degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College. He taught elementary grades in Wichita Falls public schools. He retired as principal of Kate Haynes Elementary School. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association. He was employed by Stein's Men's Clothing Store and was manager of the store in Fort Worth. He was a member of the Marietta Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and the Eastern Star. He also enjoyed fishing.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Troyce Cox Hampton; and two sisters, Elnora Wells and Mary Catherine Hampton.

Surviving family members include his wife of 67 years, Helen Hampton of Naples; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at the funeral home.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church in Naples, Texas, with Rev. Mike Fraley officiating. Interment will follow at Omaha Cemetery in Omaha, Texas.
