Danny
Watson
Dec 18, 1943 — Sep 26, 2024
DeKalb
Danny Watson was born December 18, 1943 to Windle and Georgia Watson in Naples, Texas, and passed away on September 26, 2024. Danny was the baby of the family, born much later than his siblings, always saying "if it weren't for mistakes I wouldn't be here". He attended and graduated from James Bowie High School in 1962. He wasn't much of a student– taking algebra three times– but graduated on time and entered the workforce, first at Day & Zimmerman in Hooks, Texas, and then American General Life Insurance Agency until his retirement in 2001. He had an incredibly successful career with American General and was able to take his family on multiple trips around the world. After retirement, Danny ranched and raised Longhorn cattle. Danny provided many families with relief after the passing of their insured loved ones throughout his career.
Danny was married to the love of his life, Laura Tidwell, on January 3, 1964. They remained married until her death in 2014, 50 years later. Danny is survived by one daughter, Lori Gail (Pissant). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lara Marie (Rowdy) & Richard Walker, and Colton (Pistol). As well as the Epperson Family: Grady & Kim, Sydney & Josh, Brody & Meagan, Blaine & Anna, and Kali Anna & Dakota and many Epperson/Foster/Jones grandchildren.
Danny was vivacious and full of life until the end, always with a smile on his face and a joke to tell at the ready, always in a white, short sleeved, Carhartt t-shirt, Wrangler blue jeans, and cowboy boots. If he was feeling fancy, you could find Danny in a white, button down shirt with his name embroidered on the collar. He loved to see visitors coming and always enjoyed having a house full of people to sit and visit with. He loved his daily lineup of Jeopardy, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Waltons, In The Heat Of The Night, and a host of other antenna television shows.
Services will be held on September 27, 2024 at Sand Hill Cemetery, at sundown, in a casket he handmade for himself, just like he always wanted. Officiated by James Strain and Steve Minter.
Watty will be deeply missed by so many. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Shriner's Hospital. Watty was always a sucker for the sweet babies on their mail outs.
The family will receive friends and family on September 28, 2024 at 200 Country Club Drive, Mount Pleasant.
