Dexter Bon Powell, 71, of Atlanta, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, in a Texarkana, Texas hospital. Dexter was born August 31, 1943, in Carthage, Texas, to Roland Leigh Powell and Dorothy Obera Cates Powell.

Dexter was a member of Queen City Assembly of God Church in Queen City. He was the co-owner of DB&G Transfer Service and he was a rancher. Over the years, Dexter enjoyed many different careers and hobbies. He was a pipefitter, a Salesman, formerly owned a restaurant, and he was a volunteer firefighter. He was the president of the Laws Chapel Cemetery Association, and the "unofficial" mayor of Laws Chapel. Dexter also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Obera Powell; and one daughter, Ginger R. Powell.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Betty Powell of Atlanta; one brother and sister-in-law, Trevelyn and Nelda Powell of Gilmer; one sister, Treaca and Jim Huston of Atlanta; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna and Mike Dupree of Atlanta, granddaughter, Gabrielle Stanton of Atlanta; great-granddaughter, Cadence B. Stanton; special friend, Patti Everett of Atlanta; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at the Queen City Assembly of God Church in Queen City, with Rev. Jason Crump and Rev. Bob Fox officiating. Interment will follow at Laws Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church on Saturday, prior to the funeral.
