Donald Ray "Don" McElhaney, Sr. entered this life June 1, 1940 and departed into glory March 13, 2022. He was born in Pittsburg, Texas to parents William and Lorena McElhaney.
Don attended school at Pittsburg ISD. Don joined the Navy in 1957 and served his country for 4 years. While stationed in Sanford, Florida he met and married Mildred Bridgeman and they had four children. Later, he met and married Patricia Robertson and they spent 42 wonderful years together. He worshipped and was a member at Liberty Baptist Church, Naples, Texas. Don worked for Pilgrim's Pride for 47 years. He began his career as a catch crew manager, feed mill manager, and eventually live haul manager before retiring. He enjoyed his work, fishing, hunting, his dogs, gardening, and visiting with many friends and family.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lee McElhaney and Luke McElhaney; two sisters, Patsy Hallonquist and Molly McElhaney; and one nephew, Jackie McElhaney.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Patricia McElhaney of Omaha; two sons, Donald Ray McElhaney, Jr. & wife Rhonda of Mount Vernon, Robert Leonard "Len" McElhaney & wife Alice of Pittsburg; three daughters, Debra Ruth "Debbie" Patterson of Pittsburg, Pamela Jane "Pam" Wallace and Gary Owens of Pittsburg, Danielle Mitchell & husband Michael of Prosper; two brothers, James McElhaney and wife Cammie, and Olen McElhaney and wife Shirley; thirteen grandchildren, Ray McElhaney, III, Jason Patterson, Jarrod McElhaney, Kelli Patterson, Joshua McElhaney, Jonah McElhaney, Monica Beaird, Amra White, Bobby Wallace, Jr., NaShae Tuomey, Shelby Mitchell, Justin Owens, and Brenen Owens; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Macedonia Cemetery in Pittsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
