Emmett Lamar Baker, age 93, of Rockwall, Texas, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018, in Rockwall. Emmett was born September 27, 1925 in Tampa, Florida to Milton Amos Baker and Nannette Carter Baker.

Emmett was a long-time member of Casa View and Shiloh Terrace Baptist Churches.  He was a father who taught his daughters by his example the value of hard work as he spent many years working for JCPenney, The Dallas Morning News, and various other jobs to meet the needs of his family. Emmett loved sports and was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Rangers, golf, and any sporting event involving his grandsons.  Known by many just as Baker, he loved people, making new friends, and socializing with those he had known for many years.  He could light up a room with his smile.  His family was the highlight of his life and he made the most of every minute he spent with his children and grandchildren.

Emmett was preceded in death by his wife and soulmate, Sammie Baker, in 2017; his parents; two brothers, Buster Baker and Milton Baker; three sisters, Bernice Baker, Virginia Baker, and Betty Savage; and one son-in-law, Jim Batten.

He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Nan and Phil Ketcham of Heath, Texas, and Sherry Baker of Round Rock, Texas; three grandchildren, Lauren Baker, William Batten, and Richard Batten, his wife Jaymie and their sons Jay and Hank. He was loved by so many people because he loved so many unconditionally.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Omaha Cemetery in Omaha, Texas followed by a memorial service at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church, 9810 La Prada, Dallas, TX.

Emmett left a legacy of faith, family, and friendship.  In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring his memory with a contribution to Shiloh Terrace Baptist Capital Fund or Baylor University's Louise Herrington School of Nursing.
