Freddy Joe Davenport, age 89, of Naples, Texas, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022 in Dallas, Texas. Freddy was born September 10, 1932, on the family farm owned by his great-grandfather since 1858, in the Cornett Community in Cass County, Texas to Minnis B. and Opal Davenport.

Freddy moved to Naples in 1942 to be closer to school and electricity.  Freddy played the trumpet and football for the Naples Buffaloes, and graduated in 1950, the last class of Naples High School.  He was awarded the Lone Star Farmers Degree by the Future Farmers of America. Freddy graduated from East Texas State University with a degree in Economics in 1954, and always said "living through the depression, you get a special insight."  Freddy worked as an electrician at Lone Star Steel for 40 years, was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 66 years, raised cattle and then later timber.  He loved music and dancing, from waltz to square dancing, watching the history channel, and was an excellent checker player.  His heart and soul were his family and friends.

Freddy was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Patsy Davenport, in 2007; one step-granddaughter, Meagan Flanagan; and his parents.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Jackie Davenport of Wylie, Texas; two granddaughters, Jaylynn Davenport of Dallas, Texas and Brittany Davenport of Wylie; one great-granddaughter, Avery of Wylie; two step-granddaughters, Bridget Flanagan of New York City and Jennifer Six of Little Elm, Texas; his special companion and dance partner, Anna Harris of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Naples with Bro. Dwaine Higgins and Michael Harris officiating.  Interment will follow at Cornett Cemetery in Naples.
