Gary Wayne Peek, Sr, was born at St Joseph's Infirmary in Houston, Texas, on October 14, 1945, to Aulton Lee Peek and Dora Vernell Smith Peek. Gary went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 76 on Monday, January 24, 2022, after several years of battling dementia and other physical ailments. He passed away quietly at Glenview Wellness and Rehabilitation in Richland Hills, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father, Aulton Lee Peek, his mother, Dora Vernell Smith Peek, and his brothers, Lawrence Nelson Peek and James Randall Peek.

Gary's legacy will continue through his family and many friends. He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Peek Cunningham and husband Fred; his children, Gary W. Peek II and wife Cindy, Kimberly Peek Smith and husband Johnny, and James R. Peek and wife Michele; his grandchildren Jordan Smith Ayers and husband Andrew, Faith Smith Baldwin and husband Matt, Hayden Peek, Bethany Peek, Colin Peek, Mallory Peek and Eryn Peek; and his great-grandchildren Blake Baldwin and Mattie Jo Baldwin.

Gary was raised in Houston, Texas, and was baptized at the age of 13, on September 14, 1958, at Liberty Baptist Church. He was a 1964 graduate of M.B. Smiley High School. He attended college at South Texas College in Houston and Kilgore College where he studied real estate, business and engineering. He spent the majority of his career in residential and commercial construction, but also worked at Southern Pacific Transport, Oilfield Pipe Production, Day & Zimmerman (Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant), Lone Star Steel, Coachmen, and was a commercial truck driver for East Texas Motor Freight, ABF and Schlitz Brewery. He previously owned a cabinet shop in Longview and a country store and diner in East Mountain.

Gary was a dynamic personality with a great love for life, traveling and sharing a good story with others. He never met a stranger. He loved sports, hunting, fishing, photography and had a passion for the history of Texas and Native American culture. While living in Longview, he was a member of Toastmaster's International and active as an Assistant Scoutmaster for a number of years when his sons were involved in scouting. In his later years, Gary lived in Omaha and Naples, before a short period in Mansfield and Richland Hills for medical treatment and nursing care.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the Harrison Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at Spring Hill Cemetery, both in Naples, Texas. Pallbearers include Gary W. Peek II, James R. Peek, Johnny Smith, Hayden Peek, Colin Peek, Gary Essary, and Andrew Ayers.
