Gene Newman, age 65, of Marietta, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 205, at his home. Gene was born on October 25, 1949 in Pittsburg, Texas, to Thaddeus Nathan Newman and Ida Jeanette Sloan Newman.

Gene worked at Lone Star Steel for 42 years. He was a stretch mill operator. He was a member at Restoration Family Worship Center in Naples. He was also a member of the United Steel Workers Union. Gene enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed mechanicing on various projects he accumulated over the years.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Thadious "T.N." and Jeanette Newman; two brothers, Dwayne Newman and Larry Joe Newman; and one daughter, Candye Tinsley.

Gene is survived by his wife of 36 years, Pat Newman of Marietta; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Chad Newman of Loranger, Louisiana, Billy Tinsley of Houston, Texas, and Todd and Shelly Newman of Pittsburg, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Donny and Marzell Newman of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; two sisters, Peggy Wells of Katy, Texas and Nelda Newman of Redondo Beach, California; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Billie and Larry Morris of Cookville, Texas; and four grandchildren, Tessa Callaway, Tristian Callaway, Kambry Newman, and Kason Newman; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2015, at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 3015, at Lone Star Cemetery in Cookville, Texas, with Rev. Bryan Peck officiating.
