Virginia "Ginny" Catherine (Calvert) Hagan, 72, passed away on November 29, 2018, at Pathways Memory Care in Spring, Texas, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease and surrounded in love by her daughters. She was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, on November 12, 1946.   She graduated from Lafayette High School in 1964 and then became a registered nurse.

After living in Pensacola, Florida; San Diego, California; Asheville, North Carolina; and Waxahachie, Texas, Ginny moved to Naples, where she would live for 36 years and where she considered home. She was head nurse at David Granberry Memorial Hospital and later worked as an ICU nurse for Titus County Memorial Hospital.

She began working for Pewitt Consolidated Independent School District as the school nurse in 1981 and worked there until her retirement in 2013. She was passionate about her job and especially about Pewitt Schools. In addition to her job as school nurse, she served as cheerleader sponsor for many years and was an avid supporter of Brahma athletics of all types.  In 2001, she became both a grandmother and a breast cancer survivor.  She was also a lifelong animal lover and was always willing to adopt new members into her family of cats and dogs.

Ginny was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Naples, Texas and was actively involved in the church, including singing in the choir, playing in the handbell choir, teaching Sunday School, and working with Vacation Bible School.

She is survived by her daughters, Stacey Edmonson of Conroe, Texas, and Carrie Barber and husband Petey of Malvern, Arkansas.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Gregory, Andrew, and Abigail Edmonson of Conroe, Texas, and Kealy and Jerrod Barber of Malvern Arkansas.  She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Esther and Arthur Grimm of St. Joseph, Missouri, and is survived by her sister Linda Nelson Smith of Kansas City, Missouri, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ginny lived a full, active life and took great joy in serving her patients, the students at Pewitt Schools, her church, and her children and grandchildren. She loved life and loved people and had a generous heart for helping others.

The family wishes to express appreciation to Pathways Memory Care and Vantage Hospice for the care they offered Ginny during her final weeks and months.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ginny's name can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Naples, the Pewitt Education Foundation, the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, or the charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held for Ginny on Friday, December 21, at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church in Naples.  The family will receive visitors from 1-2 pm in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
