Services for Mrs. Gladys Thompson, 93, of Naples will be Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 10:00 am at Harrison Funeral Home Naples, Texas 75568. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm on Monday, February 26. Rev. Jay Barnes, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Naples will officiate the Tuesday service.

Mrs. Thompson was born on September 21, 1924, in Simms, Texas, the daughter of Chestine Caroline and James Wise Curbow. She died February 22 ^nd at Memorial Medical Center in Port Lavaca, Texas. She and her late husband, Edward Thompson, owned and operated Thompson's Furniture Store in Naples for 51 years where she worked as the bookkeeper. Mrs. Thompson loved her family, friends and home. When visiting her daughter in California, she was often asked why she loved Texas so much. She would say simply, "It's home." She made home special through her delicious home cooking, the beautiful flowers she planted and her inclusive love and warmth.

Gladys married her husband days before he left to serve in the Marine Corps in World War II. She did not see him for three years while he served in the South Pacific. When Edward came home, they lived briefly in San Diego, California, and Vero Beach, Florida before returning to Texas.

Her love of home was equaled by her love of travel. She and Edward enjoyed many trips during their 67 years of marriage. In later years, she loved riding and traveling with her two girls and Diane Koerner, who she referred to as her "adopted daughter."

Mrs. Thompson's focus was on her family and raising two girls. She valued education highly and always made sure the girls did their lessons. The girls grew up hearing "when you go to college." In later years, she often accompanied her daughter, Betty, to classes and events at Cal Poly Pomona State University. When with her daughter, Glenda, at her bayside home she equally enjoyed the beauty of nature as she watched dolphins jumping or grandchildren catching fish on the pier. In short, Mrs. Thompson loved life and gave joy to life through her warmth and caring.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. In 2010, the Thompson's were honored by the Naples Chamber of Commerce with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Mrs. Thompson was preceeded in death by her husband, Edward Thompson; her brother and sister, Norris Ray Curbow and Sybil Minter; and two nephews, Paul Curbow and W.D. Minter. She was also preceeded in death by Sandi Rogers, the only dog she ever let in the house.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Alford of Claremont, California, and Glenda Rogers and husband, Jim, of Port Alto, Texas; four grandchildren, Brent Harrison and wife, Greta, of Los Angeles, California; Jim Rogers, III, and wife, Ilene, of Corona del Mar, California; Clint Rogers and wife, Emily, of Austin, and Charlotte Pulitzer and husband, Robert, of Houston; four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Rogers, Hunter Rogers, Connor Rogers, and Collin Rogers and seven nephews.

Burial will be at Sand Hill Cemetery immediately following the Tuesday morning service.
