Obituary

Helen Elizabeth Smith Hampton was born in Omaha, Texas on July 20, 1929, to Boss Hubbard Smith and Allie Marie Talley Smith. She passed away in Rockwall, Texas on January 3, 2025.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 67 years, Charlie Winston Hampton; brothers, Willard Douglas Smith, David James Smith, Richard H. Smith; sisters, Betty Smith Wagner and Nancy Trimble. She is survived by her sister, Cynthia Smith Owens of Rockwell, Texas; brother, Ernest E. Smith of Commerce, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen graduated from Winfield High School and received Bachelor and Master degrees in education from East Texas State Teachers College (East Texas A&M Commerce). She taught elementary school, retiring after 42 years of service in Wichita Falls and Fort Worth.

Helen and Charles enjoyed travel and spent many summers traveling the world as travel hosts for Educational Opportunities. After retirement, they moved to Naples where they were active members of FUMC (First United Methodist Church) and became active in the community. They were generous patrons of NTCC, establishing an endowment for perpetual scholarships in the Work 4 College program as well as donors to the library named in their honor.

Helen was a lifetime member of PTA and T.S.T.A, member of Texas Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma and 50 year member of the Daughters of America Revolution.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First United Methodist Church in Naples, Texas or the NTCC Work 4 College Scholarships.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 11, 2025, in the chapel of Harrison Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Omaha Cemetery.
