J. Roy
Traylor
Sep 14, 1941 — Sep 28, 2025
Naples
On Sunday, September 28, 2025, James Roy "J.Roy" Traylor age 84, of Naples, Texas passed away surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. Born on September 14, 1941, to J.C. Traylor and Johnnie Kate Thigpen Traylor, J.Roy built a life rooted in faith, hard work, and generosity.
J.Roy was a member of the Rocky Branch Church of Christ. J.Roy was a steadfast presence in his community. He was a farmer at heart and an entrepreneur by spirit, owning and operating Traylor Farms from the early 1960s until 2017. His vision and dedication also ensured that Rocky Branch Grocery became a beloved local staple, and he poured the same energy into every venture he undertook.
J.Roy's greatest legacy, however, is not found in the businesses he built but in the lives he touched. He had a natural gift for storytelling and a way of making everyone feel like an old friend. His booming laugh, quick wit, and famous bear hugs could fill any room with warmth. Whether on the farm, in the middle of the road, or around the Table of Knowledge, he never met a stranger.
He loved driving the backroads of East Texas – primarily in his infamous "J.Roy lane" also known as the shoulder, tuning in to his favorite TV shows, and enjoying a good meal especially when it was shared with those he loved. Above all, J.Roy cherished time with his family. He loved fiercely and without limits, and his presence will continue to shape and inspire those who knew him.
J.Roy leaves behind a family and community who will forever carry his stories, his hugs, and his example of hard work, humor, and heart.
J.Roy is preceded in death by his parents. His brother Jack Traylor and sister Kathy Traylor Dalton. Brothers-in-law Chester Crow and Jeff Dalton. One daughter Jan Traylor Ragland and one son-in-law Alan "Vine" Ragland.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Nita Beth Crow Traylor of Naples; one daughter Jyl Traylor Wood and Bryan Wood of Gilmer, Texas. Five grandchildren, Jo Ragland and Chad Suttles of Panhandle, Texas, Chase Ragland of Naples, Shelby Ragland of Naples, Jordan Wood of Naples, and McKenna Wood of Gilmer, Texas. Six great-grandchildren, Cooper Suttles, Charli Suttles, Raylee Eubanks, Brynlee Eubanks, Luca Neal, and Charlotte Neal. One niece Lynn Traylor Burgess and Randy Burgess of Mt. Pleasant, Texas and one Nephew Casey Traylor and Rae Lynn Traylor of Omaha, Texas and beloved family friend Ines Mendez.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at the Springhill Cemetery Church with Bro. John Hooton and Bro. Dwaine Higgins officiating.
