James Robert "Jim" Burris, age 75, of Bryans Mill, Texas passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016 in a Texarkana, Texas hospital. Mr. Burris was born June 28, 1940 in Sunset, Texas to Jesse Thurman Burris and Vada Mae Bryan Burris.
Jim retired from Bechtel-Becon Construction Company where he was a surveyor and civil engineer. He lived in the Naples area for 33 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, as well as being an avid fisherman/hunter/outdoorsman. Jim enjoyed playing dominoes and barbecuing.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Sonny Burris; and four sisters, Wanda Sands, Lou Holder, Marlene Howard, and Mae McLeod.
Surviving family members include his wife of 57 years, Shirley Burris of Bryans Mill; two sons and daughter-in-law, Shayne and Carrie Burris of Big Spring, Texas and Cliff and Brenda Burris of Bryans Mill; one daughter and son-in-law, Fonda and Dr. Fenwick Charters of Langley, British Columbia, Canada; six grandchildren, Shelly Rosen, Kyle Burris, Jesse Burris, Joshua Smith, Hollie Hart, and Zachary Williams; twelve great-grandchildren, Aaron Rosen, Sterling Rosen, Audrey Rosen, Mackenzie Smith, Mataya Smith, Kayn Burris, Amerie Burris, Addison Hart, Axel Hart, Logan Williams, Christian Burris, and Jessie Burris; and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2016 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the funeral home chapel with Bro. Mark Rhinehart officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Marietta, Texas.
