James Boyd Gibbs, age 78, of Daingerfield, Texas, entered into Heavens's gates Wednesday, March 4, 2026, in Longview, Texas. James was born June 6, 1947, in Naples, Texas.

James was a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, collecting pens, reading, taking his grandchildren to Dairy Queen, talking to his grandchildren in his Donald Duck voice, and loved giving out cookies. James especially enjoyed reading his bible, telling people about Jesus, and spending time with his family.

James was preceded in death by his father, Jonas Boyd Gibbs; mother and step-father, Ellen Lavenia Franklin Tye and Horace Tye; one brother, Hugh Gibbs; two sisters, Donna Johnson and Brenda Coffey; two step-sisters, Gail Wall and Wanda McKinney; and two grandsons, Terrance James Adams and Colton O'Neal.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Valerie Gibbs of Daingerfield; three daughters and one son-in-law, Susan and Terry Adams, Sr. of Mexia, Texas, Stefanie Gibbs-Loften of Daingerfield, and Stacey Gibbs of Daingerfield; one brother-in-law, Danny Johnson of New Boston, Texas ; eleven grandchildren, Terry Adams, Jr. and wife Hillary, Taylor Taylor and husband Jacob, Trevor Adams and wife Tiffanie, Clayton Loften and wife Lexy, Courtney Loften, Christopher Loften, James Dylan Gibbs and wife Allie, Michaela Irvin and  husband Hunter, and Keagan O'Neal; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples, Texas. Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m.  Monday, March 9, 2026, at Cedar Springs Baptist Church in Ore City, Texas, with Bro. John Tanner officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Naples.
