James Edward Laney, age 84, of Omaha, Texas, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. James was born September 2, 1933 in Linden, Texas to Robert Emmett Laney and Willie May Davis Laney.

James worked in the logging industry most of his adult life. He was a United States Army veteran. James enjoyed riding motorcycles, whittling, gardening, hunting, and sightseeing. He loved to watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Laney, in 1980; his parents; one son, Michael Laney; and one sister, Louise Biddle.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandy McNeil of Mexia, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Virginia Laney of Cookville, Texas; ten grandchildren, Darby Green and husband Jacob, Chris McNeil, Misty Williams, Stephanie McNeil, Ashton McNeil, Jasmyne McNeil, Meisha McNeil, Kobe McNeil, Katie McNeil, and Konor McNeil; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Harrison Funeral Home, Naples, Texas.
