Janetta Nell Pope Elder, age 79, of Omaha, Texas, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2016, in Tyler, Texas. Mrs. Elder was born June 24, 1936, in Titus County, Texas to William Henry Pope, Sr. and Flecia Hautence Redden Pope.

Mrs. Elder retired from Paul Pewitt Elementary School where she taught first grade for 36 years. After retiring, she was a professional caterer. She was a member at First United Methodist Church in Naples. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, Texas Retired Teachers Association, and the Morris County Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Elder cherished being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; and she enjoyed reading.

She was preceded in death by one husband, Milton Brown; her parents; and two sisters, Carolyn Pope and Ruth Frost.

Surviving family members include her husband, Jerome Elder of Omaha; one son, Tom Elder and Kyle Mohler of Lindale; two daughters, Julie and Ronnie Reynolds of Cookville, and Kimberly Barr and Bill Bowman of Omaha; two brothers, William "Turtle" Pope and wife Joan of Omaha, and Jerry Pope and wife Teresa of Omaha; four grandchildren, Ashleigh Wilson and husband Jacob, Amber Reynolds and fiancé Brett Presley, Britney Baker, and Lindsey Barr; six great-grandchildren, Colton Wilson, Caleigh Wilson, Claire Wilson, Jaylee Minor, Lexie Minor, and Kennedy Baker; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in Naples with Rev. Jay Barnes officiating. Interment will follow at Omaha Cemetery in Omaha.
