Mrs. Dorothy Janette Tigert Cook, age 81, of Colorado Springs (formerly of Omaha, TX), passed away from congestive heart failure on Monday, May 23, 2022 in Colorado Springs, CO surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 17, 1940 on the family farm near Omaha, TX to Dee Whitaker Tigert and Mae Dorothy Ball Tigert. She grew up on the same farm just west of Concord, beginning public education at Omaha Elementary for four years and continuing at Paul H. Pewitt Consolidated Independent School, Omaha, where she graduated with honors.  She studied Home Economics, first at Texarkana College where she graduated with honors and an Associate Degree. She continued her education at East Texas State College (now Texas A&M - Commerce) and graduated again with honors and a bachelor of science degree in Vocational Home Economics and a minor in Communications. Janette did her student teaching in Winnsboro, TX, and accepted her first teaching assignment at Brownfield, TX, where she taught two years.

While student teaching in Winnsboro, TX with Mary Kelley she met Paul Cook at First Baptist Church, Winnsboro. The couple married February 1, 1964, at First Baptist Church in Omaha and began their married life together in Winnsboro where Paul worked at Allen Cook Chevrolet. During their time in Winnsboro, Janette worked in personnel at the Lee Factory in Sulphur Springs, taught Homemaking one year at Cumby High School and was AV Coordinator for Winnsboro schools one year.

Prior to moving to Houston, TX, in 1967, Janette completed her elementary certification. Janette taught two years at Meadow Wood Elementary School, Spring Branch ISD. Barry was born in 1969.  At that point she enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom.

Paul and Janette moved to Tyler, TX in 1973 where Brandon was born in 1975. They lived in Tyler for 10 years where their family attended Green Acres Baptist Church and developed dear friendships, including many from a young adult Sunday school class that they led.

In 1984, they moved to Katy, TX where she worked in the personnel department of Katy Independent School District for 17 years. She was involved in Bible Study Fellowship for several years in Tyler and Katy and were active members of Kingsland Baptist Church. In 2002 Janette retired from KISD.

Newly retired, Paul and Janette moved to El Paso, TX to be near Barry, Kathy, Connor, Makenna and Brady, during their early years. Janette spent much of her spare time, not only caring for her grandchildren but also working on many genealogy projects, coordinating family reunions, and documenting Concord Community history and multiple cemetery records. Throughout the years she enjoyed crafts, sewing, knitting, working in the yard, visiting with friends and relatives, and organizing to make life easier for others.

In 2009, Paul and Janette returned to Janette's birthplace near Omaha, where they enjoyed 12 years on the farm. Being close to long-time family and friends on the farm was truly a blessing to Janette and Paul as well.

In 2021 they moved back to Tyler and on to Colorado Springs in 2022 to be closer to Barry, Kathy and the grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her son, Brandon Cook, of Jacksonville, FL. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Paul Cook, of Colorado Springs (formerly Grand Prairie, Winnsboro, Tyler & Katy); son, Barry Cook and wife Kathy of Monument, CO; three grandchildren, Connor, Makenna and Brady Cook of Monument, CO; two sisters, Vicki Davis, and husband Jerry, of Campbell, and Becky Whatley, and husband Sammy of Lone Star; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 4th, at 12:30 at Concord Missionary Baptist Church, Omaha. Visitation after the service and interment.
