Betty Jean Gray, lovingly known by her family as Memaw, left this world to be in the presence of our Lord and Saviour Sunday, July 18, 2021.

She was born in Coleman County Texas, May 20, 1928.

She grew up in west Texas during the Great Depression. This taught her to hold on tight to EVERYTHING! In the end this wonderful mother, grandmother, widow, aunt, friend and child of God held on tight to this life. She lived to age 93 and was married nearly 71 years to the love of her life, Maborn Wesley Gray Jr.

Their union produced two sons; Michael David Gray and Gary Lynn Gray.

Maborn preceded her in death, October 22, 2017, five days before their 71st Wedding Anniversary. She missed him EVERY DAY, kissing his picture every morning and every night, thanking him for loving her and giving her many happy years.

She loved her Saviour, and in the last days on her death bed she asked her Great-Grandchildren if they were going to Heaven?

Part of her nightly routine included reading her Bible before going to bed. We had a baby monitor watching over her each night. After turning out the bedside lamp and TV we would hear her praying for her children and grandchildren!

Jean loved birds and cats, and also loved to paint and color. She also loved horses and talked fondly of a horse named Flica which she had as a teenager.

She loved crocheting baby blankets for grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and boy did this family keep her busy.

Jean has 6 grandchildren; David Wesley Gray, Darrell Eugene Gray, Gary Gabriel Gray, Amanda Heather Gray Whisenhunt, Alexander Austin Gray and Arthur Michael Gray. She also has 21 Great-Grandchildren and 6 Great-Great-Grandchildren.

This next part is a source of laughter and joy. Most mornings Jean would eat dry Honey Nut Cheerios for breakfast. We would find Cheerios in everything, and everywhere. It was a source of laughter for Jean when she would spot a Cheerio on the floor or in her clothing. It happened so often, we frequently told her we were going to throw some Cheerios in her casket just so she would feel at home.

The container of Cheerios on the table is for you, Memaw, from all of us.
You will be missed by all your family and friends. This is not goodbye but see you later. Even so come Lord Jesus!

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples, Texas.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples with Rev. Nolan Richey officiating.  Interment will follow at Omaha Cemetery in Omaha.
