John Alvis Bryan, age 83, of Naples, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in Longview, Texas following a brief illness. Born September 29, 1942, in Texarkana to Alvis Chapell and Veneta Spence Bryan, John lived a life marked by quiet generosity, steady faith, and deep devotion to his family and community.

A longtime resident of Morris County, John attended school in Daingerfield from the second grade until graduation in 1961.  After earning three degrees in Electrical Engineering at SMU and employment at Texas Instruments in Dallas, he returned to Morris County in the early 1990's.

John was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Naples. He served as the church treasurer and was the leader of the men's breakfast group. He was also a member of the Daingerfield Lions Club, co-founder and president of the Daingerfield/Lone Star Education Foundation, the Daingerfield/Lone Star Alumni Association, and director of the Paul Pewitt Education Foundation.

John served on the Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees for 20 years and was board president for four of those years. Because of his personal involvement in agriculture, he was able to make significant contributions to the programs of the Agricultural Department at NTCC. It was John's leadership and guidance that led to the establishment of the NTCC's Honors Program. This has been a very successful program which has helped to establish NTCC as a leader in Academic Instruction, and whose students have received statewide and national recognition for their achievements. He was instrumental in founding the Wesley Center at NTCC, where he could often be found enjoying fellowship and serving meals to college students. John supported many causes, often anonymously, and never turned away someone in need.

John received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Daingerfield Lions Club, was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus by Daingerfield-Lone Star Alumni Association, and was named Citizen of the Year by the Omaha Chamber of Commerce. He was passionate about education and worked diligently to provide better opportunities for the students of Morris County.

John was involved in numerous business ventures and was Chairman of Texas Heritage National Bank at his passing. He appreciated simple pleasures: tending to his ranch, supporting his alma mater Southern Methodist University, attending the Dallas Symphony, traveling with his family, and sharing stories about the classic cars he loved. Above all, he treasured the life he built with his loving wife of 60 years, Janet, and the family they raised together.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Janet Bryan of Naples; two sons, John Alvis Bryan, Jr. of Houston, Texas, and Charles Henry Bryan of Naples; one daughter, Jennifer Anne Bryan of Plattsburgh, New York; two sisters-in-law, Mary Beth Hurd and husband Neil of Katy, Texas, and Martha Ellen Robert of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and numerous other relatives and friends

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2025, at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples, Texas. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church, Naples, Texas with Dr. Debbie Tipps officiating. Interment will follow at Union Chapel Cemetery in Douglasville, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Naples or the NTCC Honors Program.
