Katie Hampton, age 95, of Naples, Texas, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 at her home in Naples, Texas. Katie was born August 19, 1921 as Katrina Maria Lippert in Homburg, Germany. She was the youngest of seven children born to Otto and Augustine Lippert.
As a young woman, Katie experienced the horrors of Hitler during World War II. Her uncle invited her to come live with him and his family in America, and she did in November 1951. She met J C Hampton (the love of her life) that year and married him on March 14, 1952. They lived in Ft. Worth for a few months, then moved to Houston in January 1953, where they made their home until retirement in 1986 when they moved to J C's hometown, Naples. Katie became a United States citizen on July 18, 1952. That was her most prized accomplishment.
Katie and J C had no children, however they housed and loved many dogs and cats. They led very active lifestyles, being avid gardeners, dancers in a dance club where they learned ballroom dancing, and making many lasting friendships after becoming members of the German-American clubs in Houston, Texarkana, and Longview. Katie loved to sing almost as much as she did dancing, and she would entertain guests by playing the guitar and accordion. Two of her favorite TV shows were "Dancing with the Stars" and "The Voice." Before Katie became ill, she was an active member in the Naples Chamber of Commerce and Naples Lion's Club.
Katie was preceded in death by her husband, J C Hampton; her parents; four brothers; and two sisters.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews, living in various parts of Germany. Several people held a special place in Katie's heart: Marlin Martin, Nolan Richey, and Deb Ramsey (whom she called children); Keith Higgins, Gladys Thompson, Hilda Hensley, Rosemarie Elder, Anni Fricks, Jerry and Paula Thompson, Hanalore Culpepper, Albert and Frida Feucht, Betty Mitchell, Betty Richey, Joyce Richey, Eva Marlar, Jo Robertson, Carolyn Watkins, Susan Comer, Kellie Cook Wise, and Nancy Goforth.
Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel in Naples, Texas with Rev. Nolan Richey officiating. Interment will follow at Cornett Cemetery in Naples.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the funeral
