Obituary

Lou Ella May Currey, age 84, of Naples, Texas, passed away February 9, 2026. Lou was born March 29, 1941, in Simms, Texas, to William Carl May and Lottie Lee Easttam May.

Lou had many careers through her life including as the tax assessor and collector for Pewitt school and as co-owner and operator of L&L Service Station in Naples. When not working, she loved collecting cook books and cooking, and was famous in the family for her cornbread dressing. She attended the First Baptist Church in Naples.

Lou was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carlton Currey; six brothers, Bill May, Leroy May, Delbert May, Loyd May, Hubert May, and Curtis May; and four sisters, Era Orr, Vera Daniel, Joyce Heard, and Emma Burns.

Survivors include one son, Bruce Thompson of Dallas; one brother and one sister-in-law, Jesse and Nancy May of Mt. Pleasant; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A graveside service will take place at 1 pm on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Wheatville Cemetery in Naples. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
