Obituary

Loyd Dwain Martin, age 82, of Naples, Texas, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2017 at his home. Loyd was born December 22, 1934 to LeRoy Martin and Ruby Thacker Martin.

Loyd was a police officer for many years, serving in several departments before settling in Naples, where he was the chief of police for several years. He had his Master Peace Officer's license, and was also a member of the National Peace Officer's Association. He was the Chairman for the Northeast Texas Police Academy for many years and also volunteered for the Salvation Army. He was involved with the Toys for Tots program. Loyd would do anything to help children. In his younger years, Loyd raised horses. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Upon retirement from the Police Department, Loyd enjoyed mowing yards.

Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Ponder and LeRoy Martin; one son, Robby McEntire; and one brother, James Martin.

Surviving family members include his wife, Barbara Martin of Naples; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Jamie Martin of Maud, and Chris and Jennifer McEntire of Naples; three daughters, Sherry Quaid of Texarkana, Brenda Betts of Naples, and Cindy Martin Nall of Texarkana; one brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Mona Martin of Naples; one sister, Doris Robinson of Texarkana; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Liberty Baptist Church in Naples with Bro. Shane Sibley and Bro. Tommy Weems officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
