Donald Mark Nance, age 55, of Naples, Texas, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016, at his home. Mark was born May 31, 1961 in Naples, Texas to Donald Louis and Nancy Jo Hampton Nance.
Mark worked as a software engineer with First Light Technologies in Portland, Maine, AMX and at various Motorola plants. He was baptized in June of 1975 at First Baptist Church in Naples, Texas. Mark attended Texas A&M Commerce where he studied physics. In recent years, he developed a new altimeter for rockets. He was a member of the National Association of Rocketry, the Dallas Area Rocket Society, and the Tripoli Rocketry Association.
He loved to travel, especially on the job. His goal was to visit all of the states, and he did manage to travel to 42 of them. Also, when he was working in Germany he visited many European countries, including Holland, England, France, Switzerland and even the Vatican in Rome, Italy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Don Nance; and his grandparents, Louis and Freida Nance, and Horace and Effie Hampton.
Surviving family members include his wife Rhonda Nance of Naples; mother, Nancy Nance of Naples; two stepsons, Ryan Gildon of Arlington, Texas and Jonathan Gildon of Naples; and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the funeral home chapel with Lisa Holley, M.D. and Robert Coffey officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Marietta. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cypress Basin Hospice or the Oak Ridge Cemetery Association.
