Mary Jane Cherry, age 78, of Omaha, Texas, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Mary Jane was born July 29, 1939 in Omaha, Texas to James Thomas Cherry and Mary Emma McDowell Cherry.

Mary Jane graduated Paul Pewitt High School. She then attended the University of Texas at Austin and received her Bachelor's degree. She received her Master's from Georgetown, and her PhD in English from Catholic University in Washington DC. She was a college professor for many years as well as working in Washington DC for Congress. Mary Jane enjoyed studying Shakespeare.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include several cousins and numerous other relatives.

Graveside services are planned for 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2017 at Omaha Cemetery with Rev. Jay Barnes officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice.
