Mary Kathryn Moncravie Lewis, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at her home in Houston, Texas. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of devotion to her family, her students, and her lifelong love of sports.

Mary was born on May 31, 1935, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Cornelia Pettus Moncravie and John Thomas Moncravie. She attended elementary school in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, and graduated from Plainview High School in Ardmore, Oklahoma, in 1952. A lifelong learner and dedicated educator, Mary earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Arkansas Tech in 1956 and later completed her Master’s Degree in Education at the University of Arkansas in 1962.

Mary devoted her professional life to education, teaching physical education at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. Her career began in Forrest City, Arkansas, before bringing her to Texas, where she taught in Yorktown, New Braunfels, and Cuero.

Mary had a deep passion for youth athletics and was a strong supporter of opportunities for young athletes. She pioneered the girls’ basketball program in Cuero and, alongside her husband, co-founded the girls’ Little League program in Shiner, Texas. Her dedication to education extended well beyond her own career, and she took tremendous pride in seeing her two daughters follow in their father’s footsteps and become dedicated, hardworking educators themselves.

Away from the classroom, Mary was an avid sports fan who faithfully cheered for the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. She enjoyed family fishing trips and vacations and treasured the time she spent watching her four grandchildren pursue their own interests and accomplishments in soccer, golf, competitive dance, basketball, choir, and football. Supporting her family and watching her grandchildren grow brought her tremendous joy.

Mary’s life was marked by her devotion to education, athletics, and, above all, her family. The lessons she taught, the opportunities she helped create for young people, and the memories she shared with those she loved will remain an enduring part of her legacy.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Johnny Bob Lewis; daughter, Connie; parents, Cornelia and John Thomas Moncravie; and brother, John Thomas Jr. “Sonny” Moncravie.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Lana Dubberke and husband Scott of Houston; grandsons, Tyler Gammill, Major Gammill, and Tracer Dubberke; granddaughter, Amber Taylor; as well as extended family, former students, and friends whose lives she touched throughout her many years as an educator.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Local Services will be at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples, Texas. Interment will follow at Naples Cemetery in Naples, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tyler Gammill, Jordan ”Major” Gammill, Tracer Dubberke, Dave Carangie, Phil Moncravie, and George Moncravie.
