Obituary

Murlene Watkins Shaddix, age 86, of Marietta, Texas, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022 in Atlanta, Texas.  Murlene was born September 4, 1936, in Cooper, Texas, to James Taylor Watkins and Hazel Marie Teague Watkins.

Murlene was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Marietta.  She was a homemaker.  Murlene was a member of the Flat Creek Community Association.  She enjoyed playing bingo, participating in cake walks, and playing dominoes and 42.  When she was younger, she enjoyed playing basketball and softball.  In later years, she loved spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren's sporting events.  Murlene also loved getting her hair done.

Murlene was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Auvis Shaddix, Sr.; her parents; four brothers, James Watkins, Melvin Watkins, Noel Watkins, and Eddie Joe Watkins; and one sister, Loretta Williams.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Auvis Jr. and Diann Shaddix of Marietta and Danny Joe and Lynda Shaddix of Marietta; three brothers and eight sisters-in-law, Zachy Watkins of Hughes Springs, Texas, Jackie and Carolyn Watkins of Omaha, Texas, Shirrel and Donna Watkins of Utah, Mary Joyce Murphy, Marlene Watkins, Bobbie Shaddix, Eula Shaddix, Martha Watkins, and Easy Davis; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Dwaine Higgins of Omaha; four grandchildren, Scott Shaddix and wife Malinda, Rebecca Pinkston and husband Mark, Ashlee Morris and husband Joe Ray, and Daniel Shaddix; eleven great-grandchildren; her roommate at Golden Villa, Alice Storie; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2022 at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Marietta.  Interment will follow at Flat Creek Cemetery in Marietta.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Marietta.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Golden Villa Nursing Home and Chambers Hospice for their special care.
