Peggy Jo Wood Lakey, age 81, of Center, Texas, passed away Monday, July 15, 2019 at Pine Grove Nursing Center in Center, Texas. Peggy was born November 12, 1937 in Honey Grove, Texas to William Henry Wood and Valeta Gilbert Wood.
Peggy grew up in Honey Grove and graduated from Honey Grove High School in 1956. Some of her many accomplishments included being part of the Choral Club, member of FHA, was Social Chairman, Drum Major, and several other organizations. During her last semester of High School, Peggy married the love of her life, Bill Lakey, and they had 3 children, Elizabeth, Kimberley, and Philip. The family enjoyed a wonderful life together until his passing in 1996.
Peggy served as a medical laboratory technician until she retired from a lengthy career. She was of Baptist faith and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, playing dominoes, crossword puzzles, and bowling. Peggy was known as a caretaker to all that knew her. She was known as Mimi to her grandchildren and treasured the moments spent with her family and friends.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Lakey, in 1996; her parents; one daughter, Elizabeth Wommack; two brothers, Jack Wood and Phil Wood; and one sister, Beverly Wrenn.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Steve Waters of Center, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Aimee Lakey of Buda, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Mathews, Christopher Wesp, Michael Wesp, Kaitlyn Wommack, Mikayla Wommack, and Phoebe Lakey; six great-grandchildren, Braiden Miller, Kendall Miller, Evelyn Wesp, Catherine Wesp, Atalee Wesp, and Ryleigh Wesp; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples, Texas with Bro. Keith Lauter officiating. Interment will follow at Omaha Cemetery in Omaha, Texas. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Organization of choice.
