Edgar Ray Matthews, age 46, of Maud, Texas, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015, at his home. Ray was born July 20, 1969, in Brownfield, Texas to Harvey Edmon Matthews and Climmie Neeley Matthews.

Ray spent most of his adult life working as a mechanic, having worked overseas from time to time.

Ray was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Matthews; one brother, Edwin Matthews; and one sister, Veronica Matthews.

He is survived by his fiancé, Kristy Autrey of Maud; mother, Climmie Matthews of Omaha; one son, Wesley Matthews of Mt. Pleasant; three daughters, Cabrina Matthews of Simms, Maitland Matthews of Simms, and Amber Matthews of Winnsboro; two brothers, Lawrence Matthews of Omaha, and Evert Matthews of Omaha; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Cecelia and John Joplin of Lubbock; Leda and Dale Hall of Mt. Olive, Mississippi, and Rachael and Kent Stacks of Omaha; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2015, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2015, at the funeral home chapel with Rev. John Ratliff and Rev. Charles Hillis officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
