Roy
Griffin
Sep 22, 1940 — Aug 30, 2018
Longview
Roy Alton Griffin passed away August 30, 2018 at age 77. He was born September 22, 1940, at the family home in the Rocky Point Community.
Roy had a wide range of deep interest. He traveled the world with his reading, and to say he loved to read would be an understatement. His sense of humor and one-liners were legendary among family and friends. He always kept it light, never taking anything too seriously. To him a day without laughter was truly a day wasted. Linda always said that was the secret to their 55 year marriage. You just can't stay mad at a man that makes you laugh.
Roy always wanted to dive The Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia, that dream never transpired, but he enjoyed scuba diving in the Caribbean and any clear water lake, and some not so clear in surrounding states.
Roy served as past Master of the Pine Tree Masonic Lodge 1396 in Longview. He was also an active member of the Greggton First Baptist Church for many years.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Cleatus and Beatrice Griffin, life long residents of the Naples area.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Linda Gail Griffin of Longview, Texas; one son, Bryan Avery Griffin of Waxahachie, Texas; sister Linda Marie Fuchs and husband Ken of Austin, Texas; sister-in-law, Fanette Lindsey and husband Jim of Marietta, Texas; sister-in-law Carol Hogue and husband Gene of Mesquite, Texas; grandchildren chosen by love, Philip and Katy Gustafson; two nephews, Lane Lindsey and Kenney Fuchs; one niece, Barbie Buie; and wonderful caring friends, especially the TNT group, thanks for all the fun.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Rocky Point Congregational Methodist Church in Naples with Rev. James Cheatham officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Naples Public Library, P.O. Box 705, Naples, Texas 75568 or Creekmore Cemetery, 312 Heard Road, Naples, Texas 75568.
