Sandra Frances Hackney, age 78, of Mt. Vernon, Texas, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021, in Tyler, Texas.  Sandra was born August 20, 1943, in Paris, Texas, to Hubert Lester Cheatham and Mattie Irene Golden Cheatham.

Sandra graduated from Paul Pewitt High School in 1961 and earned a Master's in Elementary Education from East Texas State University.  She impacted the lives of hundreds of students as a teacher and coach at Paul Pewitt High School and Mt. Vernon Elementary School, and retired after 32 years of service.

Sandra had a passion for travel and cruising; her favorite destinations were Australia, Paris, London, Greece, Italy, and Alaska. In her retirement, Sandra loved going to the movies with her dear friend, Vicki Mayfield, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and Mavericks.  Sandra's greatest joy came from laughing and spending quality time with her loved ones—especially playing Canasta, dominoes, and croquet. She loved her cats, enjoying a glass of champagne, and eating chocolate-covered strawberries. Sandra continually proved her love for those dear to her in words and acts of care, and in her home, everyone was accepted for who they are.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne Hackney of Mt. Vernon, Texas; one daughter and daughter-in-law, Sheri and Lesa Shaw of Arlington, Texas; one son, Kyle Shaw of Arlington; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Patricia and Kirby Hollingsworth of Mt. Vernon; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Dottie Cheatham of Lindale, Texas, and Richard and Juan Nell Cheatham of Wimberly, Texas; three grandchildren, Marcus Hollingsworth and partner Sam Garrott, Kara Halley and husband Braden, and Blake Hollingsworth; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Sandra's family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples.
