Sharon Bonita "Nanny" Whelchel, age 75, of Marietta, Texas, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at her home. Sharon was born June 12, 1948, in Naples, Texas.

Sharon was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Bryans Mill, Texas. She worked as a school bus driver then worked as a drug and alcohol counselor for Bowie County until she retired. Sharon enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. She also enjoyed fishing, running trot lines and playing 42.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Don Whelchel; her father, Melvin Capps; one son, Stacey Whelchel; and one brother, Larry Capps.

Survivors include her mother, Lillian Capps of Nash, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Russell Shields of Naples, Texas; one brother, Randall Capps; three grandchildren, Emily Brazee, Garrett Shields, and Mason Shields; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 17, 2023 at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Harrison Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Franks officiating. Interment will follow at Cornett Cemetery in Naples, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Bryans Mill, Texas.
