Shirley Alexander Mathis, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Pleasant Springs Nursing Home in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, after battling dementia. She was born in Odessa, Texas, on Mother's Day, May 14, 1951, to Homer Douglas Alexander and Billie Joyce Harris Alexander.

Shirley was a homemaker and member of Tyler Road Baptist Church in Henderson, Texas, where she taught children's Sunday school. When the children went to church camp, she mailed each a card, so they would get mail from home. She was an animal lover and would feed and care for dogs and cats on many occasions.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Lee Mathis, Sr.; her parents; and one sister, Peggy Alexander.

Survivors include one son, Gary Lee Mathis, Jr. of Longview, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and John Thomas; and numerous other relatives and friends.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date at Gladewater Baptist Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Texas.
