W.G. Foster's Obituary
William Green "W.G." Foster, 90, of Omaha, Texas, passed from this life on April 29, 2015 in a Plano nursing home after complications of a fall, surgery, and possible strokes in recent days.
He was born on September 13, 1924 to Edward and Annie Lou Connor Foster in Rocky Branch, Texas.
W. G. was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Garrett Foster, his brothers Leman and Louie Foster, and his parents.
He is survived by his daughter, Glenda Foster of Plano, his brother Roy Foster and wife Betty of Texarkana, sister Virginia (Janie) Boswell of Texarkana, nephews Don Boswell and wife Janice of Dallas, TX and David Boswell and wife Claudia of Chicago, IL , niece Shanna Foster of Texarkana, and their families.
W. G. grew up in Rocky Branch and graduated from Omaha High School in 1941.
He went to Texas A&M University before being drafted September 1944 to serve in World War II. He went to Europe in the 631st Tank Destroyer Unit, was stationed for a time in General George Patton's headquarters and later in various posts in Germany before returning home in July 1946.
He then went to East Texas State Teachers College where he received B.S. Degree in 1949. He completed his masters degree in Agricultural Science from Sam Houston State University in 1951.
He met Bobbie Garrett while at ETSTC. They married December 19, 1948 and were married over 62 years before her death in 2011.
He taught for two years at Chapel Hill school near Mt. Pleasant, TX. He then worked for Lone Star Steel Company for approximately 32 years.
W.G. and his wife Bobbie were among the founding members of the Naples Church of Christ. The church was always a very large, integral part of their lives. W. G. was a song leader for many years and he served as an elder of the church until he retired in 2004.
W. G. was a life-long farmer who took great pride and delight in gardening and caring for his yard. At various times he also raised chickens and cattle.
Visitation—Harrison Funeral Home in Naples, Texas Friday, May 1 from 6-8 PM
Funeral services—Naples Church of Christ, Saturday, May 2 at 2 PM. Family members and out of town friends are invited to lunch at the church at noon.
