Willie Giles Smith, age 90, of Naples, Texas, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016, in a Daingerfield, Texas nursing home. Willie Giles was born April 17, 1926 in Omaha, Texas to Robert L. and Cecil Taylor Smith.

Willie Giles was an elder at the Church of Christ in Naples. In the 1940s, Willie Giles and his brother, Eddie, owned and operated a tailor shop in Daingerfield. He then moved to Vivian, Louisiana and worked for Arkla Gas Company. After a few years in Louisiana, Willie Giles and his family moved back to Daingerfield and opened a grocery store. He then went to work at General Dynamics inside Lone Star Steel. Upon leaving General Dynamics, Willie Giles owned and operated the Gulf station in Omaha. In 1970, Willie Giles was elected County Commissioner in Morris County, and served in that position until he retired in 1994.

Willie Giles was a member of the Naples Chamber of Commerce. He was also a past president of the Executive Committee of the Arktex Council of Government. He was the Naples Citizen of the Year in 1992. Willie Giles was a committee member of the Texas Veterans Land Board. He was a board member of the Morris County Appraisal District, and the Northeast Texas Health Systems Agency. Willie Giles also served on the board of the Springhill Cemetery Association. Willie Giles was known as an avid quail hunter, and raised and trained bird dogs for many years.

Willie Giles was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Irma Lou Roberts Smith in 2009; his parents; two brothers, John Edward Smith and Bobby Gerald Smith; and one sister, Nancy Bell Johnston.

Surviving family members include one son and daughter-in-law, Billy Ray and Suzanne Smith of Denton, Texas; five grandchildren, Jefrey Smith, Jill Myers and husband Dean, Robert Myers and wife Katherine, Gabrielle Fass and husband Adam Lambert, and James "Derick" Fass; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2016, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2016, at the Church of Christ in Naples with Jonathan Whitaker, Bud Bryant, and Bryan peck officiating. Interment will follow at Springhill Cemetery in Naples, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of Christ in Naples or the Springhill Cemetery Association.
